In my house, stocking are always the last gift to be opened on Christmas morning. Items in the stocking are never wrapped, and I even try to hide a small trinket in the tip of the stocking to add just one more surprise.
This year I was challenged to shop at Dollar General to make budget-friendly stockings. I definitely feel like I succeeded! I purchased a few items to complete my children’s stockings, but I wanted to spend the majority of my $25 budget to give back to children in need. I put together 2 donation stockings (1 for a boy and 1 for a girl) that were overflowing with Holiday goodies.
Luckily, Dollar General has a wide selection of gifts at a fantastic price. Most of the items I purchased were only $1! I purchased a coloring book with crayons, body wash, candy, play-doh, bubbles & a small toy for each stocking. As you can see from the picture above; I had to stuff the stocking to make it all fit!
My top money-saving tip for filling stockings is to purchase items on sale throughout the year. The stockings I filled from Dollar General were limited to only one shopping trip. Although I did well and was able to complete 2 great stockings for $25, I could have saved even more by shopping multiple weeks to take advantage of sales.
Don’t forget that Dollar General accepts coupons to help you spend less!
